DESIGNING YOUR OWN GRAPHICS? - IMPORTANT INFORMATION!

While we at Spin Digital would be glad to help design your project, and our graphic designers are as good as any in the business, we realize that you might prefer to design your CD project yourself, or have another designer handle the creative task. Beginning designers should read Important Printing Terms for more information.

In order to offer the lowest prices possible, Spin Digital requires that all design and graphics files from external sources be "100% press-ready". This means that the files can be sent directly to press, without any errors - no bad fonts, improper colours, missing images, insufficient bleed, etc.

Submitted files that need extra work to make press-ready may incur an extra charge for our time (see below). Changes or revisions to artwork already submitted may also incure extra charges. Therefore, it is best to be sure that your design is complete and carefully collected together.

USE CORRECT SOFTWARE & TEMPLATES

The majority of our pre-press is done in Adobe InDesign CS2, which we prefer - if your designer has options in the software they choose to work with, please ask them to use this, for best results.

A SPECIAL NOTE FOR QUARK XPRESS USERS: WE DO NOT SUPPORT QUARK XPRESS PASSPORT 6 OR QUARK XPRESS 7 (ANY VERSION). IN THE FUTURE, WE WILL BE ONLY UPGRADING ADOBE INDESIGN. IF YOU HAVE FILES IN QUARK XPRESS 6 PASSPORT, PLEASE SAVE THEM AS VERSION 5, SINGLE LANGUAGE BEFORE SUBMITTING. QUARK USERS CAN SUBMIT PRESS-READY PDF FILES (PDF/X-1a / 2003 compliant, full bleed, CMYK)

These are the software packages that we support:

2. Quark XPress (4, 5, 6 standard (not Passport))
3. Adobe Illustrator (9, 10, CS, CS2)
4. Adobe Photoshop (6, 7, CS, CS2)

We recognise that perfection is sometimes hard to achieve (though we try), and we will fix errant files as needed. Our rates for fixing graphic design errors are:

CD MANUFACTURING GUIDE

We recommend to anyone who is designing their own graphics, that they download a copy of our "CD Manufacturing Guide" as a reference for printer specifications and requirements. Requires Adobe reader, free from www.adobe.com

WE SUPPORT MULTIPLE FILE FORMATS

Designs done in other softwares, such as Pagemaker or Corel Draw, will need to be converted into the proper software for output to film, and may incur extra charges (see table above).

Our design department works in both Macintosh and PC platforms and have the most common professional design and layout programs for both.

For all projects, please include all images, in CMYK (if applicable), as well as any fonts used in the project.
